About our nursery
The Playcentre prides itself on providing flexible nursery services to meet the needs of busy families. We cater for babies through to 4 years. We have an excellent team of qualified and experienced Early Years Practitioners with each child being allocated a key person focusing on the needs and learning of each individual child.
The Playcentre includes a quiet area for reading stories, a separate area for sleeping, an area for messy play and craft and a large all weather outside play space separated for both babies and pre-school, and we also make use of the adjacent playing field.
Sessions are available for a full day (7.30-6.00), or half days with times between 7.30am and 6.00pm, and we also offer a shorter ‘school day’ to tie in with school drop-off and collection times. We can offer Term time only sessions, or all year.
The Playcentre is closed for all bank holidays, the period between Christmas and New Year plus two inset days per year in approx. April & September each year. We accept childcare vouchers, Tax Free childcare and 9 month, 2, 3 and 4 year free entitlement for either 15 or 30 hours.
The Playcentre offers free entitlement sessions between 9am – 3pm.
Nursery Groups - 0 to 2 years (Babies)
The baby area is a self-contained space with everything that we need at our finger tips. It’s a stimulating and fun learning environment for babies aged 6 months to two years. We have our own fenced, gated garden, in which we have a messy, creative area including a water wall and Wendy house, plenty of space for our ride on cars and slides, and access for mark making opportunities. Inside we have table and chairs for activities and for meal times, and all our belongings are hung up on pegs. We have different areas for our resources and toys, for example a sensory area and a book corner with a sofa.
We have sleep mats and blankets when we are ready for our naps, and have cots in the sleep area in the overs side. We have lots of interaction from the older children, they love bobbing their head over to say hello and they even come in and lend a hand. We have access to the garden throughout the day, regardless of the weather and we also use the large field and park which is great for taking picnics to.
We have so much fun when we are at nursery, we have access to a wide range of activities that cover the three main areas of development, (Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical, and Communication and Language). No day is the same and there is always something new to learn, and we most definitely never stay very clean because we have too much fun exploring and getting stuck in! We can’t wait for you to join us on our nursery adventure.
Nursery Groups - 2 years+ (Overs)
The Overs classroom is spilt into different areas, providing a wide range of play-based learning that covers many areas. Our role play area changes through the year based on learning opportunities and interests shown by the children, we have had a post office, a camp site with fire, and a school. Our Math’s area consists of items to encourage interest in shapes and numbers, looking at how they may fit together, feeling the shapes in their hands and explore the different things we can count. We have an art area which the children have access to, to let their creative side flow whenever the felling strikes, with a range of different mark making tools. Around the room we also have a quiet sensory area, this is sometimes linked with the book area depending on the time of year, tables for playdough, puzzles and games. The children have access to an interactive touch screen which allows us to have story time and join in with some get active videos like sticky kids or cosmic yoga. To help keep the children motivated to learn we follow their interests as best we can and keep the environment as inviting as possible.
We are a free flow nursery which means the children can choose to be indoors or in the garden. We do go out in all weathers! We also take advantage of the lovely village we are situated in, using the field and play park, going for walks to the church, along the fields to the horses and also to the duck pond.
The fenced off garden is set up as close to indoors, with the different areas to support learning, allowing the children that prefer the outdoors to still access learning opportunities. We also have a mud kitchen, Wendy house and different climbing apparatus which the children explore, gain confidence on and learn risk taking.
